Media Release: Change in editorial direction for media website

PublicRelationsToUse

ONE of Scotland’s longest-established sources of media news and resources has announced it is to drop providing news, from the start of next month.

Immediately following its annual festive break, www.allmediascotland.com is to focus on other forms of editorial, insodoing dropping its daily media news briefing, issued weekdays, at midday.

Its Noon Briefing involves curating news already out there. That was launched two years ago, following several years of the site operating as a more traditional news sourcing outlet.

The change will see the site advertise for a new editor, current incumbent, Mike Wilson, stepping down to concentrate on other aspects of the business.

He said: “The site has always had a mix of editorial, including resources to assist media organisations and individuals reflect on their practice, become better at what they do and promote their goods and services to prospective clients.

“So, lots of the current site will remain in place, including our media jobs board and the facility for third party organisations – such as theatre groups, food producers and educational institutions – to share their stories with journalists and the wider public.”

But he added: “However, from January 4, should a media organisation wish to promote its latest initiative on allmediascotland.com, it will have to do so in the shape of a media release. That said, with over 16,000 followers to our dedicated, twitter.com/allmedianews feed, they won’t be short of an audience.

“We are also going to create a brand new website, aggregating all the media releases posted on allmediascotland.com plus planned, new sector-specific sites, to build on our already existing steady stream of ‘news by the people, for the people’, for the general public to engage with.
