A LARGE Aberdeen storage facility is collecting gifts on behalf of Northsound One’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign.

Simply Self Storage, which has a 75,000 sq ft facility in Mugiemoss Road, has set aside storage space for the gifts, which are being collected to give disadvantaged children a special Christmas morning.

The campaign, which is in partnership with The Wood Foundation, has asked for unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young people aged 0-18 years, which the charity will hand out to youngsters prior to Christmas Day.

With four million children living in poverty across the UK, Christmas is often a luxury many families cannot afford. Cash for Kids is Bauer Radio’s network of local charities, supported by its local radio stations including Northsound 1, which operates across 21 areas around the UK.

Each year, Cash for Kids raises millions of pounds for local children and young people who are suffering from abuse or neglect, who are disabled, have special needs or who simply need extra care or guidance.

Collective Cash for Kids raised £15.7 million in 2014.

Kevin Shand, managing director from Simply Self Storage, said: “We are delighted to support the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign.

“We have space at our Mugiemoss Road centre so it makes sense to become a drop off point for the people of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to bring their gifts to us for safe keeping.”

Lisa Grainger, corporate fundraiser for Cash for Kids, said: “We are very grateful to Simply Self Storage and our other drop off points for giving us easy locations for listeners to drop off their gifts.

“Christmas can be a very difficult time for some families, and we are keen to do all we can to give some children something special this year.

“We simply ask people to buy one extra present this year and pop along to Simply Self Storage or our other drop-off sites and we will make sure that gift gets to a well deserving child or young person.”
