Eden Court CREATIVE had a roller coaster week last week when their Summer Musical Theatre Mash-Up course was joined by 28 Italian students from the theatre school of La Bottega d’europa, in Rome (http://www.labottegadeuropa.it/).
Fifty-five young stars, aged between nine and 16 years, spent the week learning songs and choreography from well known musicals which they cleverly linked together to form their devised performance, Seize the Day.
The course was taught bilingually by Eden Court tutors, Amanda Luscombe, Nicola Gray, Laura Johnston and Louise Marshall and the participants also picked up a bit of each other’s languages along the way.
Eden Court CREATIVE’s LAMDA tutor, Amanda Luscombe, said: “It’s been an amazing life and job-affirming week.
“We’ve created some kind of billingual language that everyone seems to understand and it’s been such a joy to see young people from different cultures come together to share and learn from each other. I’m so proud of what they have achieved in only a week.”
The cast performed to a full audience on Friday night and the atmosphere was electric.
“It’s been a beautiful week,” said one Italian participant. “I’ve loved getting to know the Scottish people and the tutors have been amazing. I can’t wait to come back next year.”
Eden Court are now planning this cultural exchange on an even bigger scale for 2017.
Eden Court CREATIVE manager, Katyana Kozikowska, said: “It’s been a great week and the theatre has been buzzing. We’re excited to develop this idea with the school of La Bottega d’Europa to give the young people of the Highlands even more opportunities to explore what the arts can offer them.”
If you want to join in the fun Eden Court’s summer programme is on now.
Tickets are still available for their Youth Drama Week 25 – 29 July where they will use green screen technology to create a performance based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice Through the Looking Glass.
