TWO young female entrepreneurs are forging a path to success after tripling their projected start-up figures and creating 21 new jobs in the first ten months in business.

Jennifer Linton (26) and Joanna Macdonald (30), launched upmarket Aberdeen hair and beauty salon, Linton & Mac, in the city’s Netherkirkgate in September last year and already boast more than 3,000 clients on their books.

Since launching, the salon has been making waves in the hair and beauty industry, experiencing rapid growth and positioning itself in the top five per cent of high-end, upmarket salons in Aberdeen.

Projecting a revenue of £700 a day, Linton & Mac is now taking in on average £2,000 per day and is well underway to reaching a turnover of £500,000 in its first year of trading.

A testament to its success, the L&M team has also scooped up a total of six business and industry accolades, including: Best Aberdeen Business from the Aberdeen Business Awards, the One To Watch at The Look Awards, became regional winners of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy, scored twice at Trend’s Life of Style Awards withBest New Business and Excellence in Hairdressing, and most recently, picked up the Most Promising New Business at this year’s Elevator Awards.

Jennifer Linton said: “Taking the leap was the hardest decision for us especially in this difficult climate; however, the past ten months have been a whirlwind and has proven that if you have the right offering in place along with sheer determination you can really make it work.

“Not only is it a difficult climate in the North-east, but the hairdressing market is also a very competitive one and so we knew our business plan had to be absolutely sound from the get go.

“Our team has since doubled in size to help us keep up with the demand from our clients and we’ve learned a great deal of business acumen since launching. I’m certain we will continue to learn new skills, and further develop into successful businesswomen.”

Neal Rane, relationship manager at RBS, said: “We at RBS were blown away with the enthusiasm and determination displayed to succeed by Jaye and Jen.

“They presented us with a well researched business plan, which was ambitious and innovative, and we are absolutely delighted to see that they have exceeded their stretching goals.

“Jaye and Jen are full of entrepreneurial spirit and are role models for all young entrepreneurs wishing to start up a business.”

The entrepreneurial duo has worked hard to bring the new concept to Aberdeen and have collaborated with big industry names including top London hairdresser, Sophia Hilton, Alan and Reece Beake from Ruger Barber, as well as high-profile Windle & Moodie professionals, to host special events and workshops in the North-east.
