Media Release: Organisations sign up for Argyll Enterprise Week

PublicRelationsToUse

A WIDE range of business support organisations have signed up to take part in Argyll’s first Enterprise Week, with a huge array of free support on offer.

Argyll Enterprise Week is a new initiative to support the business community across Argyll and Bute and encourage enterprise. Its debut will take place in Oban on the 31st October – 4th November 2016.

Hosted in partnership by Argyll and Bute Council’s Business Gateway and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the week of activities aims to inspire, inform and connect businesses, social enterprises, communities and entrepreneurs from across the area and beyond.

Access to funding is a key theme, with DSL Business Finance, Argyll and the Islands LEADER, crowdfunder Growth Deck, SJ Noble Trust,  Scottish Edge, Business Gateway and angel investor Investing Women Angels all delivering sessions to explain the funding they can offer to businesses and how to apply.

Central to the week will be a business support fair which will showcase the wide range of support available.

Over 25 organisations will be on hand to outline the support they offer, including Scottish Development International, Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service, Argyll College, Interface and the council’s planning and regulatory services.

Networking events throughout the week will be facilitated by Women Enterprise Scotland, Federation of Small Businesses, InspirAlba and the Oban Times.

Digital, innovation and internationalisation support will be provided through workshops from DigitalBoost and HIE’s specialist teams.

David Smart, head of Special Projects for Highlands and Islands Enterprise, commented: “We are delighted to be working with such a wide range of enthusiastic partners.

“Argyll Enterprise Week will demonstrate the strength and depth of support available, with our partners focusing on offering practical support to help enterprise flourish in Argyll and the Islands. I would encourage anyone who has an interest in enterprise to get involved with what is going to be an exciting week.”

A focus on key sectors is supported by partners including Argyll and the Isles Tourism Co-operative, Scotland Food and Drink and Craft Scotland.

Activities supporting social enterprises will be led by InspirAlba, working with partners including the Social Enterprise Academy.

Councillor Aileen Morton, policy lead for Sustainable Economic Growth, said: “The regeneration work that we are carrying out across the area, and the business advantages our geography gives us, mean that there are both general and niche business opportunities here to develop.

“Argyll Enterprise Week is all about supporting the talent and ambition of our business community in turning these opportunities into success for our people and the long term prosperity of Argyll and Bute as a whole.”

The event programme will be published at the end of August, when the activities will open for bookings.
