THE cream of music, comedy sport and local business came together last night for the Radio Clyde Awards.

Glasgow’s great and good got their glad rags on for the first-ever Radio Clyde Awards.

With live music from Travis and a special video appearance from Noel Gallagher, guests were treated to a fantastic night at the Hilton to celebrate businesses and individuals from local communities across Glasgow.

12 coveted Radio Clyde Awards were up for grabs ranging from Workplace of the Year, to Best Busker. Nominations for each category were made by the station’s listeners and the winners were chosen by a judging panel.

Big winners of the evening were Travis, who performed at the event after taking home the Pride of the Clyde Award. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds was awarded Gig of the Year, with Noel appearing in a pre-recorded acceptance speech from his Summer Sessions gig in Bellahouston Park.

Among those victorious was RBS 6 Nations 2016 player of the tournament Stuart Hogg, who was awarded Sportsperson of the Year. Other well-known winners included Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, who was named Rising Star.

A whole host of local businesses and individuals within the community were honoured, including, among others, Vicki McCarthy who was awarded the Extra Mile Award for her work with Reach Autism and Louise Sinclair from Linwood High School who won Best Teacher. The Clyde Style Award went to F&M Hairdressing while intu Braehead was awarded Best Family Day Out.

A number of well-kent faces were in attendance including the current Miss UK Mhairi Ferguson, the lead singer of Keane Tom Chaplin, Geoff Ellis ‘Mr T in the Park’ and a whole host of Radio Clyde presenters including Bowie at Breakfast’s George Bowie.

Guests enjoyed a champagne reception and three course meal and were kept entertained throughout the awards by Clyde 1’s very own dynamic duo Ewen and Cat. Also joining them on stage, following his stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival was comedian Jason Byrne.

Jill Todd, sales director, Radio Clyde said: “What a night! The first ever Radio Clyde Awards was a huge success. Glasgow really is fantastic and these awards give us a chance to celebrate all the brilliant people and businesses that make this city so special.

“The live acts were the perfect blend of music and comedy highlighting what Radio Clyde does best, entertaining our listeners.

“A special thanks must go out to our event sponsor, Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, Hillington, the night couldn’t have happened without their support. We also want to extend a huge thanks to each of our category sponsors for getting behind these awards. It’s going to be a hard act to follow but we’re already looking forward to next year!”
