Media Release: Courtyard Edinburgh teams up with local charity

Courtyard by Marriott Edinburgh297406

CITY centre hotel, Courtyard Edinburgh, has teamed up with a local mental health charity in a year-long fundraising partnership.

The newly-opened Courtyard by Marriott at 1-3 Baxter’s Place, near Edinburgh’s Playhouse, has partnered with Health in Mind in a bid to combat stigma around mental health, by encouraging staff to take part in various activities throughout 2017 – from abseiling off the Forth Road Bridge to running the Edinburgh Marathon.

Staff will not only raise vital funds for the services they offer but also raise awareness of the work Health in Mind does, including offering support services and talking therapies for those experiencing mental health issues.

Douglas Winfield, general manager at the Courtyard Edinburgh, said: “We are extremely excited to announce our partnership with Health in Mind as our charity of the year.

“We wanted to work with a local charity and mental health is something that can affect anyone at any time, so we decided to help.

“Our staff has already shown such a great enthusiasm for getting involved; from extreme sports such as the abseiling to various runs and cycles, we are all keen to get behind the charity to raise awareness and some money along the way.

“Mental health is still not often talked about, so we are keen to do our bit to raise awareness and promote the excellent services that Health in Mind provides.”

Health in Mind is based in Edinburgh and delivers specialist mental health and wellbeing services including counselling and befriending.

Lynne Stanford, Health in Mind’s community fundraiser, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Courtyard Edinburgh on board as their charity of the year.

“It’s great to see such enthusiasm from the staff already and look forward to the next 12 months of working with them to meet their goals and work together to raise awareness of mental health.

“In order for us to continue to provide our current services and develop new services across Edinburgh and the Lothians, we rely on fundraising, so we can’t thank people enough, including the staff at Courtyard Edinburgh, for their support.”

The management team at Courtyard Edinburgh is now working with Health in Mind to put together an events calendar where staff can sign-up for a variety of events and challenges and begin fundraising for the charity.

The hotel is owned and has been developed by Edinburgh-based real estate company, Chris Stewart Group, which specialises in complex urban regeneration and heritage projects.

The hotel is managed and operated by Redefine|BDL Hotels, one of the UK’s leading independent hotel management companies.
