EMINENT Orcadians, Magnus and Kristin Linklater, will speak about their lives and careers at an event in Kirkwall next month.

The siblings will feature in the University of the Highlands and Islands’ Annual Lecture, which is taking place at the Orkney Theatre on Thursday 28 September.

Magnus Linklater CBE has held a number of senior editorships on newspapers in London and Scotland, including the Evening Standard, Sunday Times, Observer and London Daily News. He has been editor of The Scotsman, columnist and Scotland editor of The Times and has authored several books on current affairs and Scottish history.

His sister, Kristin, is a renowned voice production teacher who has pursued a successful academic and theatrical career in the United States and Europe for over 50 years.

She is one of the most recognised names in the field of voice production and Shakespeare training for actors, having published two leading textbooks which have sold over 150,000 copies and been translated into six languages.

Magnus and Kristin will be interviewed by award-winning journalist and local councillor, John Ross Scott, at the free event.

Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The lecture is being held on the eve of the Orkney College UHI graduation ceremony, where Magnus and Kristin will receive Honorary Fellowships from the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Professor Clive Mulholland, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, said: “Orkney is renowned for its musicians, artists and writers, so it is fitting that our annual lecture will feature two Orcadians with illustrious careers in the arts. We are excited to be welcoming Magnus and Kristin Linklater for what promises to be a very inspiring, informative and entertaining evening.”

A Conversation with Kristin and Magnus Linklater will take place from 6pm at the Orkney Theatre, Kirkwall, on Thursday 28 September.
