Media release: Refugee Festival Scotland media awards 2018 open for entries

WE are pleased to announce that this year’s Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards are now open for entries.

Coordinated by Scottish Refugee Council, British Red Cross and the National Union of Journalists in Scotland, the Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards celebrate excellence in coverage of issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers.

Journalists are invited to nominate their own work or the work of colleagues by submitting an example for consideration. Members of the public are also welcome to nominate work they consider to be outstanding. Entries must have been published, or broadcast, between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018. Entrants must be living and working in Scotland.

Journalists can enter ONE piece of work per category (see below). You may submit different entries for different categories if applicable.

§  Broadcast (TV, radio, film)

§  Online and multimedia

§  Student

Student entries must have been published or broadcast (including student journals / student websites) but no unpublished coursework please.

How to enter

Please send broadcast submissions in DVD or CD format where possible.

Entry guidelines

§  Nominate a piece of your own work or the work of a colleague.

§  Members of the public can also nominate the work of a journalist.

§  Entries must have been published or broadcast between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.

§  The award is open to journalists working in Scotland, in print, broadcast or digital media.

§  Submissions can be drawn from Scottish print, broadcast or digital media.

§  Journalists working for a named employer, working freelance or contributing voluntarily to a media outlet must have produced the submission.

§  A submission of work, which should have been published or broadcast in Scotland between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018, should be submitted for consideration.

§  Please send broadcast submissions in DVD or CD format if at all possible.

§  The deadline for submissions is Friday 18 May 2018.

§  The judging panel will include writers, media experts and members of the refugee community in Scotland.

§  The judges’ decision is final.

§  The judges will not enter into any correspondence regarding the judging of the competition.

§  Submitted entries cannot be returned.
