ALL shortlisted entrants to the IPA’s Scotland Student Advertising Awards are to receive paid internships at some of Scotland’s leading advertising agencies.
The final results of the competition, which seeks out potential future stars of the advertising industry, were announced this evening at the annual IPA Scotland Members’ Reception in Edinburgh (10 May 2018).
The competition, which required entrants to create a campaign for Scottish arts-in-health charity Hearts & Minds, awarded the top prize awarded to Anastasia Pantechi and Emilie Lumineau from Edinburgh Napier University.
Their winning entry, ‘Big Shoes to Fill’, impressed the judges with its originality and scope, and included a range of campaign ideas including:
* An interactive digital poster at Edinburgh Waverly station where people will step into a pair of giant clown shoes.
* Widespread social media engagement and endorsement from Scottish celebrities.
* A 5k race around Edinburgh city centre in clown shoes.
* The potential to roll out into other cities across Scotland.
As winners, both will receive cash prize of £500 and Anastasia will receive an internship at iProspect, while Emilie will split her internship between Frame and Republic of Media.
Second and third team runners-up, who include Niamh Murphy, Andreas Obenaus, Deborah Morgan and Marc Biedul, will receive internships at The Union and Leith Agency. Meanwhile, shortlisted teams, Ruth Armstrong and Clement Raucoules-Aime, and Elise Smidt and Karina Bonnin will join The Gate for their internships. Chair of Judges and chief executive officer of Hearts & Minds, Michelle Armstrong, said: “Thank you to everyone that entered the Awards. There were some brilliantly innovative ideas that combined PR stunts and events with a great understanding of what we do at Hearts & Minds. Special congratulations must go to Anastasia and Emilie – I loved the idea and thought it captured the spirit of Heart & Minds in a really interesting way.”
IPA Scotland chair and Creative Services director of Frame, James Pais, said: “I’m extremely proud of the Student Advertising Awards as recognising and celebrating great young creative minds is vital for the future of our industry. Offering all those shortlisted and winning entrants an internship is a fantastic way of kick-starting their careers in advertising and nurturing the future of creativity in Scotland.”
In addition to hearing about the awards, the industry-filled audience at the IPA Scotland Members’ Reception also heard from Professor Chris Speed, programme director, Design Informatics, at the University of Edinburgh, and the IPA’s head of Digital & Emerging Technology, Nigel Gwilliam, about artificial intelligence, blockchain and a data driven future.
