A SCOTTISH communications agency has signalled ambitious future growth plans by adding five new members of staff to its roster and moving into new offices on Edinburgh’s Queen Street.

Orbit’s announcement follows a series of recent new business wins and the addition of a full range of design services in autumn last year. As a result, the company can now provide an integrated PR, public affairs and design offering, all under one roof in new offices at 4 Queen Street, the former home of the BBC in Edinburgh.

Bringing a broad range of skills and experience across a variety of sectors including tourism, food and drink, housing and technology, the new team members are (see Notes to editors for biogs) – L to R in attached picture – at front:

·         Jessica Leslie – trainee account executive

·         Roslyn Ivatt – trainee marketing executive

·         Sarah Mooney – account manager

·         Kyle McPartlin – designer

·         Sally Trethewie – account director

Orbit managing director, Alex Orr, said: “With these new appointments, we’ve been able to bring significant new strength and depth to our existing team. As a result, we can now offer a comprehensive and creative package incorporating PR, public affairs, digital and design services –  all under one roof. As our growing client list shows, it’s an offer that is proving really attractive in the marketplace and bodes well for the company’s continued future expansion.”

Director, Graeme Downie, said: “The new additions to our team bring a wealth of experience and knowledge working in key sectors that include food and drink, tourism and new technology. These are key growth sectors for the Scottish economy and we look forward to making full use of their varied skills as we seek to continuously improve the services we are able to offer existing clients – and to attract new ones.”

Director, Alex Bruce, commented: “This has been an important period of transition for Orbit and it’s really great to be able to welcome so much fresh new talent into the team at this critical stage of our company’s evolution. As our client list continues to grow, we want to demonstrate what a terrific skillset that team has to offer – but also that we’re a genuinely fun and friendly team to work with.”

New staff biographies

Sally Trethewie – account director

Sally joined Orbit after nearly ten years in sunny Singapore, where she worked in public affairs at an international communications agency and the Australian government. She has experience in multiple sectors including education, transport, insurance property, and food and beverage. Sally is very much at home in Scotland, as she is originally from a place also known for its whisky, salmon, wild landscapes and wild people: Tasmania.

Kyle McPartlin – designer

After studying graphic design for six years in Edinburgh College and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Kyle worked in editorial design for three years whilst working as a freelance designer for local businesses and brands across Scotland and beyond. He spends his time off trying to bribe a two year old into cooperating, taking photographs of buildings, documenting toilet graffiti into handmade zines and working alongside Edinburgh College on their mentorship programme.

Sarah Mooney – account manager

After gaining a degree in journalism and creative writing, Sarah worked in digital marketing in the public sector before making the jump to PR agency life. Since then, she’s used her creative skills for clients across sectors from food & drink to charity to tourism, and not forgetting a number of Scottish Government campaigns. A comms professional by day but a thespian by night, you’ll find her backstage in the theatre, not yet ready to give up her dream of winning an Olivier award!

Roslyn Ivatt – trainee marketing executive

After gaining her degree in Festival and Event Management with Entrepreneurship, Roslyn decided she would like to take the plunge into the PR and Comms world. After taking on various internships at Scottish agencies she was delighted to be given a role at Orbit, combining her events, marketing and PR skills. As an avid foodie, Roslyn can usually be found cooking, eating or enjoying a glass of Edinburgh Gin!

Jessica Leslie – trainee account executive

After six months backpacking across South East Asia, the city of Edinburgh drew Jessica back in when she decided to return to the capital to work in the wonderful world of public relations. Her background is in business management and marketing, with degrees from Edinburgh Napier and Heriot-Watt University.
