THE 2018 Business Women Scotland (BWS) Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) Awards are on course for another record-breaking year, as it is announced that the deadline for entries has been extended to Wednesday 12 September.

Open to established and emerging Scottish businesswomen, the awards offer the ideal platform for female entrepreneurs from all over the country to step forward and highlight the vital contributions their businesses are making to the Scottish economy and to local communities.

The range of categories at this year’s event reflects the diversity in business types owned and operated by women all across Scotland, as Carolyn Currie, CEO of WES, explained: “We are keen to ensure that every female business leader in Scotland can be represented at these awards, whether it’s for their support for the local community, their disruptive approach to business or their employment and turnover growth. For that reason, everyone – from rising stars to employers to board members to mentors and mentees – will be recognised. The awards celebrate all types of organisations, at different ages and stages, hence specific categories for start-ups, growth, international and innovation are included this year.”

Lynne Kennedy MBE, founder of BWS, added: “In previous years, we have tended to receive the majority of our entries from businesses based in major towns and cities, which is natural as it is reflective of the physical landscape of Scotland. This year, in the spirit of ensuring the awards are all-inclusive, we have created a category exclusively for rural-based businesses. We believe their incredible achievements in succeeding in sometimes extremely remote locations deserves to be acknowledged so we want to invite them to share their successes with us.”

She continued: “Research consistently shows the value of accessible role models in encouraging women to start and grow their own businesses and these awards provide the perfect platform for Scotland’s female business leaders to step forward and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.”
