EDINBURGH’S Bright Red Publishing has cause to celebrate this month.

The business published its first book in September 2008 and is hailing ten years supporting Scottish schools and students with a party at the City Arts Centre in the capital.

The company is also celebrating the sale of its one millionth book in August – a copy of their Higher German Study Guide bought by Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh. The school won a hamper filled with goodies and books to be shared by the staff.

Gordon Urquhart, principal teacher, Modern Languages, said: “As a department, we are absolutely delighted to have won the hamper and are really pleased with the quality of the books we have bought from Bright Red as well as the access to the Digital Zone. We look forward to ordering more books from Bright Red in the future.”

Twice winner of UK Educational Publisher of the Year award, Bright Red is adding to its current list of 60 guides with a range of new course books for the Broad General Education and revised National Qualifications. It is also expanding its online Digital Zone and developing a new assessment prototype in conjunction with Professor Bill Buchanan OBE at Edinburgh Napier University, using Scottish Enterprise SMART: Scotland grant funding.

John MacPherson, director at Bright Red, commented: “The landscape of the publishing industry has changed so much in the ten years since we started out.

“The challenges facing the industry have been numerous, from rolling educational changes to the closure of major high street bookstores and the rise of new digital media, but we’re delighted with what we have achieved at Bright Red.

“A big part of our approach is to always make sure our books are as good as they can possibly be and to embrace new ways of working wherever possible.”
