THE only Scottish footballer to win a World Cup medal is to team up with indie music stars at an event in Glasgow.
Rose Reilly – who represented Italy at the 1984 Women’s World Cup, and was recently the subject of a BBC ALBA documentary – will join members of Belle and Sebastian and Mogwai at Nutmeg magazine’s Football and Music night, to be held at Mono – in Glasgow – on the evening of September 12th.
Reilly and the musicians will be joined on stage by cult hero ex-footballer, Victor Kasule, and Partick Thistle legend, Kris Doolan, now of Ayr United.
Event host, Daniel Gray, writer and broadcaster, said: “There’s always been overlap between football and music, and there’s something very punk or rock ‘n’ roll about Rose Reilly and Vic Kasule.
“Both were rebels doing their own thing and they both still speak their minds – I can’t wait to interview them on stage. To have musicians of the calibre of Stuart Braithwaite [Mogwai] and Chris Geddes [Belle and Sebastian] is a real coup too.
“While they’re only booked to speak, let’s hope they form a Supergroup by the end of the evening. This will be an eclectic, funny night full of stories from pitch and stage. It’s hard to find a game or a gig for only £9 entrance fee these days, and this will be a combination of both.”
