Media release: Record sales for The National, following re-publication of oil report

McCrone

THE National newspaper, the only daily newspaper title to support Scottish independence, has achieved another publishing first – with record sales through pre-orders in their thousands of their latest special edition.

The National sold 21, 915 copies on February 27 – which will now always be known as ‘McCrone Day’. This is significantly higher than at any point over the past five years and more than double their average daily sale.

Last year, The National published the controversial oil dossier, the McCrone Report. That edition delivered a 41 per cent increase in print sales.

This year, the newspaper [carrying the report for a second time] was made available for pre-order – and more than 8,000 copies were sold before it even reached the newsstands.

Featuring across eight dynamic pages, the report was showcased alongside exclusive subscription offers to encourage readers to sign up to The National to pledge support and invest directly in the campaign for independence.

The National’s editor, Callum Baird, said: “With a second independence referendum just around the corner, we believe it’s crucial that as many Scots as possible have the information they need to make an informed choice.”
