Media release: Transatlantic challengers, showcasing the Isle of Skye flag, complete 3,000-mile crossing

FORCE Genesis, a mixed team of four competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and showcasing the Isle of Skye, have arrived in Antigua – following a 3,000-mile row across the Atlantic ocean.

The team rowed into Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua, in the early hours of the morning on Monday 1st February following a row that took them 50 days, 22 hours and 16 minutes.

During the crossing, the team faced 30ft waves and encountered all sorts of wildlife – including sharks, dolphins, marlins and whales.

Force Genesis are a mixed quad from England and, with the support of nine Skye businesses, showcased the island with its newly-launched flag. The support from the local businesses followed the successful row around Skye by another team, The Bristol Gulls, who have also now completed the 3,000-mile challenge.

Members of the Skye community joined together to sponsor Force Genesis, who are raising money for ‘blood bikes’ charities across the UK.

Blood bike groups across the UK provide a vital service for the NHS. They are run entirely by unpaid volunteers and transport blood, patient notes, organs, human breast milk, Covid-19 tests and much more, the length and breadth of the country.

The Skye businesses involved include Spindrift Boat Trips SkyeConnect Jans Macleod & MacCallum Cuillin Hills Hotel Sonas Hotel Collection, The Chippy, Sitekit Solutions Ltd and Alexander MacDonald.

This journey hopes to become a catalyst for a relationship between the three Atlantic islands of Skye, La Gomera and Antigua.
