Media release: Glasgow City Ladies receive sponsorship boost on eve of league decider

GLASGOW City Ladies FC have received a major boost ahead of their championship decider with Celtic Ladies on Sunday (October 31) after ICT firm, Northgate Managed Services, agreed to sponsor the SWF Premier League champions.

Tied at the top of this season’s league table, Glasgow City and rivals Celtic have each won all but one of their league games so far this season – the only exception being a draw between the two sides back in May.

Glasgow City lead the table by three points (with superior goal difference) having played a game more and if they win the league it will be their fourth consecutive title, setting a new Scottish record.

Therefore, the destination of the 2010 SWF Premier League trophy hinges on Sunday’s decider and Glasgow City will take to the field with new sponsors, Northgate, proudly emblazoned on the sleeves of the team’s home shirts.

ICT firm, Northgate, has a Scottish base in Glasgow and is headquartered in Belfast, with more than 1,000 staff providing infrastructure services and ICT specialist managed services to public, private and third sector organisations across the UK.

James Turnbull, managing director of Northgate Managed Services, said: “We are absolutely delighted to become a sponsor for Glasgow City LFC. Glasgow City has grown over the years to become a hugely professionally-run club with ambitions to compete at the very top of the game at home and in Europe.

“Similarly, Northgate has ambitions to grow its presence both in Scotland and across the UK through making IT work harder for our customers, delivering efficiencies and unlocking the potential of IT to transform organisations. This sponsorship complements our company strategy.

“We wish everyone at Glasgow City LFC all the very best for Sunday’s game and look forward to a successful partnership with the club.”

Northgate’s sponsorship complements Glasgow City’s current agreements with main club sponsor, Greaves Sports, and a host of associate sponsors, including McCrea Financial Services.

City captain, Laura Montgomery, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Northgate Managed Services as our latest sponsor.

“Northgate is a massive, reputable and national company and it is great to be associated with an organisation which is elite in its discipline – we also feel we are elite in our discipline so the partnership marries well.

“This new sponsorship funding has several benefits, the most basic of which is that along with other incomes it will help finance the day-to-day running of the club.

“But, beyond that, it further lifts the profile of Glasgow City Ladies Football Club. Given the markets Northgate operates in, our association with them puts us in front of new, global audiences and will be of invaluable assistance in our ongoing efforts to attract further sponsorship going forward.

“So it both gives us that instant boost while opening doors to increase revenues and commercial activities in the years ahead.”

On Sunday’s game, Laura added: “It goes without saying that we are all looking forward to Sunday’s game when we know we will have to be at our very best against a strong Celtic team if we wish to retain the league title.”
