Media release: Just in time for Christmas – Glasgow gift store launches website

A FUNKY gift store in Glasgow is hoping to fill more Christmas stockings this year with the launch of its online store, created by a leading e-commerce company, NSDesign.

Maia, based on Buchanan Street in the city centre, has launched its website – www.maiagifts.co.uk – which incorporates an online shopping facility, giving customers the opportunity to purchase the unique gifts offered in store at the click of a button.

Business partners, Samantha Rose and Soni Ahmed, hired Hillington-based NSDesign to design the new website, after receiving a recommendation from another local retail outlet. The new website also includes links to the company’s social media Facebook and Twitter pages.

NSDesign specialises in providing internet solutions to SMEs and throughout the year works in partnership with Business Gateway to deliver ecommerce workshops to local businesses.

Maia’s founders took the decision to develop the business online after noting considerable interest in the Glasgow store from visitors  from as far afield as London, Copenhagen and Dubai..

Maia Gift Store and Coffee House, which opened its doors to the public in October 2009, sells a variety of gifts that are not available on the high street, including Gorjuss – a range of stylish bags and stationery designed by Glasgow artist Suzanne Woolcott – novel home accessories, vintage jewellery and limited edition artwork.

NSDesign’s managing director, Gary Ennis, said: “For a small retail business like Maia, the internet is a hugely powerful tool. This new website will help Maia to compete with powerful high street shops this Christmas, and to gain a larger and more geographically diverse market share.”

Soni Ahmed, co-founder of Maia gifts, said: “We are absolutely delighted with our new website, NS Design have managed to capture the image and feel of our actual store within the new website. This should help us to extend our reach beyond Glasgow this Christmas.

“Over the past year we have had considerable interest from across the UK and around the globe – we even sent ’Scottie Dog’ hot water bottles to a lady in Denmark! Our new website should also be helpful for those Glaswegians who are keen to avoid the ‘dreaded’ city centre Christmas shopping rush, allowing them to do their present research and shopping in the warmth and comfort of their own homes.”
