WE are bombarded with news and stories about recessions, ‘double-dips’ and the worst is yet to come, but one local organisation is bucking that trend…
Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, established in 1964, has just had its best month ever, attracting 30 new members in the month of January.
Chief executive, Bob Davidson, believes the chambers growth formula is simple: “Understand what your customers want and do it well, consistently.
“We are a small, dedicated team of eight and have an involved and supportive board.
“The Chamber has grown from 375 members in Sep 2009 to what will be over 500 come the end of March 2011. That’s more opportunities for our members and means we really are helping Renfrewshire grow and prosper.”
From Bob’s point of view, Renfrewshire has a great deal to shout about: “Renfrewshire is proud home to many, including Glasgow Airport, St Mirren FC, UWS, Reid Kerr, Braehead, Hillington Park and Inchinnan; with global names such as Diageo, Chivas, Rolls Royce & Howden.”
The Chamber ran 93 events in 2010 and for 2011 the Chamber has many new initiatives planned including a Business Day in Paisley Town Hall and other business related events involving the Museum and the Abbey.
In addition, they are looking into a business support programme for small businesses that will compliment the existing Business Mentoring programme – where they helped 150 companies get a mentor in the last year.
Bob continues: “We try to make everything we do – really good – so every event you attend is a good use of your time – with people thinking – ‘that was good, I’ll have some more of that’.
“Proof was last year’s ROCCO Business Awards, attracting almost 500 people, raising £15,000 for local charities – with many saying it was the best awards event they have ever attended.”
