LEGENDARY rock photographer, Gered Mankowitz, is the creative force behind some of history’s most iconic music imagery which is being brought to Edinburgh by renowned international exhibition organiser, Jonathan Poole, next week.

In an illustrious career that has spanned more than 40 years, he has photographed icons, such as Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Marianne Faithfull, Small Faces, Traffic, The Yardbirds, the Jam, Kate Bush, Slade, Sparks, Eurythmics and Jimi Hendrix.

This magnificent collection will be unveiled in The Dome on George Street in Edinburgh from 8th to 12th March from 12pm – 8pm daily and admission is free.

Displaying a variety of the candid shots of The Rolling Stones on tour in the 1960s, the exhibition offers a tantalising glimpse into the wild, weird and wonderful world of rock and roll. The exhibition will include a diverse range of over 30 silk screens, black and white and colour images.

Says a spokesperson: “From 1965-1967, Gered Mankowitz was The Rolling Stones personal photographer and, aged only 19, he accompanied the young Rolling Stones on their first big American tour of the USA.

“His footage not only captured the future legends of rock, but also the meaning of the 1960s and the spirit of a new generation.

“Revered by rock royalty and thousands of fans across the world, Gered’s work captures perfectly the walk on the wild side.

“Since the early 1980s, these now iconic images have been winning critical acclaim across the globe, from Europe, America and Scandinavia to Hong Kong and Tokyo.

“Now, for the first time, Scottish rock fans will have the chance to view the eclectic when Gered’s exhibition comes to Edinburgh.”

Jonathan Poole, exhibition organiser, comments: “It will be very exciting to have Mankowitz’s work in Edinburgh and I am delighted to be showcasing these insightful images as personally I am a huge fan of his works.

“This exhibition gives Scottish people the chance to see a different side of the world of Rock and Roll in terms of his artistry and photography.”
