THE trainee shortlists for this year’s Shetland Training Awards, sponsored by BP Sullom Voe and Support Training, Lerwick, have been announced by HIE Shetland, following decisions taken by an independent judging panel convened by HIE Shetland earlier this month.

The 2007 nominations and their employers are:

BP Sullom Voe – Modern Apprentice of the Year:
Liam Adamson (SIC Infrastructure Services), Ashley Burgess (Lerwick Veterinary Practice) and Peter Stewart (Scalloway Motors).

BP Sullom Voe – Modern Apprentice – Outstanding Effort Award:
Stuart Paton (Scottish Sea Farms), Peter Stewart (Scalloway Motors) and Neil Taylor (Streamline Shipping Group)

BP Sullom Voe – Skillseeker of the Year Award:
Jill Anderson (Scoop Wholefoods), Jolene Johnson (NHS Shetland) and Michael More (SIC Leisure Services).

BP Sullom Voe – Skillseeker – Outstanding Effort Award:
Leon Bin Chen (No Catch Ltd), Peter Hall (KGQ Hotels) and Laurence Johnson (Ocean Kinetics).

The overall award winners will be announced at the HIE Shetland ‘Training Awards’ presentation ceremony, which will be held in the Clickimin Centre, Lerwick on November 12 2007.

During the same event the winners in the Support Training – ‘Get Ready for Work’ and ‘Training for Work – Trainee of the Year’ schemes will also be announced, while certificates for all trainees who have completed their training during the past year will also be formally handed out.

Rachel Hunter, of HIE Shetland, said: “We received a lot of very high quality nominations again this year and the judging panel were presented with an extremely difficult task in determining the winners and runners up in each category.

“This shows the quality of the training on offer in Shetland, the commitment of the trainees themselves and of course that of their employers in terms of making each of the individual schemes so successful in their own right.”

The 2007 Shetland Training Awards ceremony, the second of what will now become an annual occasion, is an invitation only event.
