Media Release: New chief operating officer for EventScotland

PHILIP Riddle, chief executive of VisitScotland, today announced the appointment of Paul Bush OBE as chief operating officer at EventScotland, the national events agency.

Paul’s experience comes from an extensive career in sport, where he worked as a coach, development officer, team manager, chief executive and previously as deputy at EventScotland.

Philip Riddle said: “Paul brings a wealth of experience to this important post. Events are crucial to Scotland’s tourism industry, attracting visitors from home and abroad and making a significant contribution to our national economy.

“Scotland has gained a justified reputation as a fantastic location for events large and small, and EventScotland under Paul’s leadership is set to develop this even further.”

Paul Bush said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead EventScotland at this exciting time and build on the success of its first four years in which Scotland has become recognised as a major player on the international events scene.

“There are many exciting challenges ahead to ensure that we remain on target to achieve our vision for 2015 as one of the world’s leading event destinations. I look forward to continuing to work with our partners to maximise the benefits that events can bring to Scotland.

“The next milestone in this journey will be the announcement of the venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games on 9 November in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Glasgow has an excellent bid and EventScotland is fully committed to assisting them to bring this aspiration to fruition.”
