Media Release: Northsound retains pole position

RADIOindustry figures released today (Thursday) show that Northsound 1 and Northsound 2 retain their positions as the North-east’s top radio stations.
The latest RAJAR figures, which cover the final quarter of 2008, also demonstrate that Northsound 1 remains the undisputed number one station in this area, having increased both its market share and weekly reach to 20.2 per cent (up from 18.5 per cent) and 40 per cent (up from 38 per cent) respectively.
The ‘Greigsy at Breakfast’ show on Northsound 1, which has featured co-presenter Yazz since September, remains the most listened to breakfast show across Aberdeen City and Shire.
Despite increased competition, Northsound 2 comfortably remains the second most popular local station in the area although reach was down slightly to 15 per cent from 16 per cent with market share at 7.4 per cent.
Northsound’s programme director, Chris Thomson, commented: “Once again, this is another fantastic set of results for Northsound, maintaining our undisputed status as number one in the marketplace.
“In an industry that has never been more competitive, particularly at a local level, these results reinforce what we already knew – that we are giving the public what they are looking for and are testimony to the fabulous team of people working at the station.
“Northsound has been an integral aspect of the North-east community for nearly 30 years and continues to go from strength to strength.”
Northsound 1 can be found at 96.9FM and Northsound 2 at 1035MW and on digital or log on to www.northsound1.com or www.northsound2.com
