Media Release: Argyll awarded ‘Secured by Design’ accreditation by ACPOS

ARGYLL – leaders in lone worker protection and support technologies – have been awarded a prestigious ‘Secured by Design’ certification by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland) for the company’s newly-opened administrative headquarters and integrated Alarm Receiving Centre at SafeShores House, in Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland.

Says a spokesperson: “The award recognises that the purpose built facility meets the latest design standards for both premises security and personnel safety and now carries a ‘Police Preferred Specification’ status. ‘Secured by Design’ is the official UK police flagship initiative supporting the principles of ‘designing out crime’ at the design, layout and construction stage of new commercial and residential properties. The award has the backing of the Home Office Crime Reduction Unit and the scheme has been drawn up in consultation with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR).

“This latest accolade for Argyll follows on from a number of recent milestones achieved by the company’s continued investment in the rapidly expanding lone worker technologies market.”

The company’s Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) located within the company’s new headquarters building operates to the new and demanding British Standard BS 8484 status for this type of facility and is one of only a handful of ARC’s in the UK to achieve this level of integrity and competence. The introduction of the standard was largely driven as a response to the demands of the security industry to promote best practice when providing lone worker device services against increasing concerns for the safety and well-being of individuals at risk as lone workers.

The Argyll ARC is operational 24 hours-a-day, everyday and is constructed to comply with the complimentary British Standard BS 5979 Cat II specification required to obtain a rapid and guaranteed police response to lone worker distress alarms.

The spokesperson continues: The number of lone workers currently in the UK is estimated to be around eight million individuals and growing annually. An additional 40 per cent of the UK population are recognised as being part-time lone workers.”

Since its foundation in 1998, Argyll has become the UK’s leading provider of technology solutions to support employers fulfil their duty of care to their lone worker employees. The company offers a range of products and services which have been specifically designed to monitor and manage their health, safety and well-being during time at risk. Argyll not only provides them with the means of summoning assistance but also, in compliance and recognition of the new standards, a guaranteed emergency response around which the new ARC has been designed.

Argyll currently provides lone worker services and support technology to over 25,000 end users within national corporations, local authorities, NHS and charities throughout the UK and a growing number of key channel partners across the telecoms, security and facilities management sectors.
