Media Release: Teachers from China learn English language techniques at Stevenson College

CHINESE teachers from schools in Guangzhou, southern China, are on a six-week course at Stevenson College Edinburgh to gain the In-Service Certificate in English Language (ICELT).

Stevenson College Edinburgh is one of the few institutions in the UK offering the qualification which is awarded by the University of Cambridge and builds awareness of English language teaching techniques.

Twenty-one Chinese teachers are on the course being held at StevensonCollege and they will also visit local schools and attend social events on the weekends.

Head of International Development at SCE International, Emma Meredith, said: “We are delighted to welcome the teachers of Guangzhou to StevensonCollege. We have been running the ICELT course for several years and look forward to receiving further groups. The successful development of the programme is the key to the college’s marketing activities in China.”

The course programme is designed to reflect the teachers’ specific needs and working context and the aim is to develop skills in language awareness and use in the classroom, planning, evaluation and assessment.

In return, staff from Stevenson College Edinburgh will be going out to China in the New Year to deliver the second part of the programme, involving observation of the teachers in the classroom in their schools in Guangzhou.
