Media Release: Forest walk is a hit with visitors – additional tickets released to cover demand

IF you go down to the woods today, be sure of a big surprise: Dragons, Witches and Fairies! Forestry Commission Scotland’s Faskally Wood at Pitlochry has been transformed into The Enchanted Forest for the next two weeks, to host the annual sound and light spectacular which will see 20,000 visitors take a trip to the forest with a difference.

The year’s theme, The Enchanted Forest: Scottish Myths & Legends, has seen the forest transformed into a trip through Scotland’s history, placing witches where you would expect to find squirrels, and lights where you might expect to find shrubs!

The show launched last night to a special preview audience which included Homecoming musician, Dougie McLean, who directed the music for this year’s show, MSP Murdo Fraser and hundreds of prize winners from across the UK.

Big Tree Country, the organisers of The Enchanted Forest, are expecting the show to sell out this year with demand for tickets remaining strong, despite Credit Crunch fears. Ticket sales for this year’s event have been progressing so well that organisers have also announced a release of an additional 2,000 tickets for the first week’s show to satisfy growing customer demand.

Organisers were also celebrating the news this week that The Enchanted Forest had just been shortlisted in two categories for this year’s Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Awards: Tourism & Hospitality and Marketing.

Stephen Bolland, chair of the steering group for the Enchanted Forest 2009, commented, “The Enchanted Forest combines the outdoors with the spectacular and it is a perfect outing for couples and families who want to see the outdoors in a completely different light.

“It’s great news to hear this week that we have also been shortlisted for two business awards. The Enchanted Forest is a major event for Perthshire and contributes over £1 million to the Perthshire economy. It deserves recognition for its positive impact on the local business community.”
