Media Release: Take That to inaugurate restored cinema screen at iconic London music venue

HMV and Universal Music Group are proud to announce that Take That will officially launch Take That Present: The Circus Live – the double live DVD of their epic and critically acclaimed 2009 stage live show, at the hmv Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday, 18th November.

Take That will make a personal appearance at this unique event to introduce the special preview screening, which will be free to competition winners, and, in so doing, will also officially inaugurate a huge new cinema screen facility – one of the largest in Europe, which is being restored to the auditorium after a 25-year absence.

Take That fans who visit hmv.com by 8.00am on 11th November to pre-order the band’ s new album on two-CD – The Greatest Day: Take That Present The Circus Live or the accompanying double-live DVD Take That Present: The Circus Live will be automatically entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to the hmv Hammersmith Apollo screening. 1,000 pairs will be available – enabling a total of 2,000 lucky fans to attend on the night.

The double live DVD Take That Present: The Circus Live, (release date 23rd November), will give fans a chance to see Take That live once more this year and relive the magic of the jaw-dropping, record-breaking The Circus Live tour – featuring the circus performers, the hot air balloon, the inflatable ring master and, of course, the elephant!

The double live DVD also includes previously unseen Abbey Road Studio footage showing an intimate session of the best songs from their last two albums. For those wanting to enjoy the experience on audio only, a limited edition double CD The Greatest Day presents both the Wembley Stadium (mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain) and Abbey Road Studios performances, and will be available a week after the DVD release (30th November).

HMV CEO, Simon Fox, comments: “We’re absolutely thrilled that Take That will be the very first artists to use the restored cinema screen facility at the hmv Hammersmith Apollo to premiere their fantastic double live DVD of The Circus Live. This very special screening will enable fans to experience the magic of the Circus tour once more.

“Aside from its already outstanding live music gigs and comedy shows, the hmv Hammersmith Apollo will become an ideal venue for major screenings and premieres, and will be the ultimate destination for any Rock or music films.”

The screen facility is being permanently restored to the hmv Hammersmith Apollo after a 25-year absence – the grade II listed building began its illustrious life as the Gaumont Palace Cinema in 1932. The 20m x 10m screen, which will be larger in size than any to be found in London’s West End, together with the accompanying digital and surround-sound technology is being installed by Future Projections under the direction of HMV’s cinema partners, Curzon Artificial Eye. Mean Fiddler Group (an HMV and MAMA Group joint venture), which operates the hmv Hammersmith Apollo, plans to stage regular screenings in future, including film premieres, which, uniquely, may also include an element of live performance – making it the ultimate destination venue for Rock n Pop music-related films, in particular.
