Media Release: Ayr retailers come out tops with best Christmas window displays

THE X Factor may well have had everyone glued to their television screen recently, but it’s the ‘Xmas’ factor that has Ayr shop owners in a festive flutter!

Judges for annual Best Dressed Window Competition took to the streets last week to make their selections, narrowing down the runners-up and choosing the winners for 2009.

They were joined by South Ayrshire Provost, Winifred Sloan, who said: “It hardly seems a year ago since we were last trying to pick the winners for the Best Dressed Window of 2008.

“A well dressed window, particularly at Christmas, makes shopping much more fun and, added to the Christmas lights, creates a bit of glitter and magic in the town.

“Not only do winners get tickets for the Flower Show next year, we’re also presenting tickets to Cinderella at the Citadel, adding a seasonal sparkle to the prizes!”

Two categories are judged in the competition. The Multiple Trader Award, was won by Accessorise, with Hourstons runners-up.

The Independent Retailer award was won by Pillar Box and runner-up was Table Toppers.

Provost Sloan concluded: “This year the standard has again been of a consistently high quality and it does make our decision very difficult. In particular, I’d like to commend those shops that have entered the competition, getting into the festive spirit and for their hard work in making their window displays stand out.”
