Media Release: NHS Lothian scoops top communications awards

NHS Lothian is celebrating after the communications team scooped a clutch of top awards.

The team scored four gold trophies in the prestigious Communicators in Business (CiB) Scotland Awards 2010, which celebrates the achievements of the country’s private and public sector experts.

NHS Lothian lifted the top award for staff newspaper Connections for the second year in a row. Health link made its debut entry in the awards this year and was named best stakeholder newspaper.

There were also individual honours for Jenifer Stirton, Director of Communications, who collected an award for Outstanding Contribution to the Communications Industry, and for Aislinn McGrane, communications officer, who was named Young Communicator of the Year.

Jenifer said: “I was delighted and honoured to win the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Communications Industry.

“I was particularly pleased that the work and talent of Aislinn McGrane was recognised by the CiB. Aislinn has been instrumental in improving our staff newspaper, Connections, in raising the profile of the important work of the Community Healthcare Partnerships (CHPs) and organising our annual staff awards.

“It’s great to see Connections going from strength to strength by winning the category for the second time in a row. I’m also very pleased that Health link won best stakeholder newspaper in its first outing.”

Aislinn, 24, from Edinburgh, said: “I really never expected to win, but I am thrilled to have collected the award. It was great to be nominated in the first place, but to win means that all of my hard work has been recognised by professionals outwith my own team.”

The awards took place at a glittering ceremony in the Radisson SAS Hotel in Glasgow.

The full list of awards includes:

  • Best Stakeholder Newspaper – Health link
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Communications Industry – Jenifer Stirton
