Media Release: Stevenson College moves forward in Saudi Arabia

FOLLOWING a successful visit to Saudi Arabia in January, four senior trainers from Stevenson College Edinburgh (SCE) will make a return visit to Riyadh this month to deliver Quality Assurance training to the Kingdom’s Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC).

The Quality Assurance workshops are facilitated by the British Council, who work actively in the Middle East to develop educational opportunities and cultural exchange. Over 80 delegates from TVTC’s cross-Kingdom colleges and central administration units will attend the two-day training, which will include presentations, discussions and break-out sessions.

Four of Stevenson’s five faculties are represented on the SCE team, including Jane Hollin, training and consultancy manager from the Faculty of Business, Administration and Languages. Jane has advisory experience from projects with a range of organisations in international education, including the development of materials for the Qatar Social Science Curriculum. She commented:

“Stevenson is delighted to be delivering our first training programme here in Saudi Arabia. We are looking forward to sharing our expertise and best practice in quality assurance and to continue to strengthen our partnership with TVTC and the British Council.”

The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) was established by the Saudi government to plan and supervise vocational education and training. Strong government support has enabled TVTC to increase the number of its graduates and to spread technical education and vocational training across the cities and provinces of the Kingdom.

Stevenson’s inaugural visit to Saudi Arabia in January followed the inception of its partnership with TVTC in 2009, when the college hosted 18 TVTC teacher trainers who completed a three-week Quality Assurance programme at the college.

SCE undertakes significant international activity and its International Development Team is responsible for a range of projects including student recruitment, European programmes, and professional training.
