Media Release: A high-tech solution to better putting

WORLD-renowned putting expert, Dr Paul Hurrion visited Aberdeen’s Aspire’s golf centre this week to launch his Quintec software.

Aspire have put two of their professionals – director of Instruction, Billy Fyfe, and head PGA pro, Stephen Murray – through one of Hurrion’s PGA-accredited courses, with the aim of developing an exciting, new putting programme for North-east golfers.

Dr Hurrion uses a biomechanical approach to putting that has seen him become one of the most respected coaches in the world of golf. His clients include a number of the game’s top players, including Padraig Harrington, Lee West and Rory McIlroy.

Dr Hurrion said: “Too many people buy a putter off the shelf because they like the look of it and there is no real rational thinking.

“People get fitted for drivers and irons all the time but it amazes me how little attention is paid to the club they use more than any other.

“The key thing for me is that people do not know the difference between a good putt or a bad putt and if you cannot determine what you are doing wrong how can you determine what you need to do to correct it?

“That’s the basic ethos we follow with the professionals we work with.”

His passion for golf led him to specialise in putting analysis, and over the last ten years he has been researching the theory of sports biomechanics which he now passes onto his star clients.

Hurrion uses world-beating software to identify tiny faults in player’s putting techniques which the human eye can’t detect. This biomechanical analysis involves use of the most up-to-date technologym including high-speed cameras, force plates and computers.

Commentating on Dr Hurrion’s visit to Aspire, general manager, Garry Russell, said:

“We are delighted to have the renowned putting guru, Dr Hurrion, come to Aspire and pass on his expertise to our staff. The new putt lab presents a unique opportunity to all golfers in the North-East to receive tuition and fittings that is specific to their putting stroke.”

Billy Fyfe, director of Instruction, added: “We have developed a putting programme that allows us to continually test and measure your improvement. With the investment in the new equipment, we can now pinpoint any areas that need worked on. The putt lab puts us at the fore-front of player development, not only in Aberdeenshire but throughout Scotland.

“Thanks to the new techniques that we have learned from Dr Hurrion, we are confident of delivering a service that has never been seen before in the North East.”
