Media Release: Moray Firth Radio secures hat-trick of nominations at national commercial radio awards

INVERNESS-based radio station, MFR, has secured three nominations in prestigious national radio awards – the Arqiva radio awards.

The awards recognise excellence and talent in the UK Commercial Radio Industry.

Moray Firth Radio has been nominated as ‘UK Local Commercial Radio Station of the Year’.

Popular daytime presenter, ‘Knoxy’, has been shortlisted for ‘Presenter of the Year’.

And the radio station’s new music show presenter, Marion Scott, has been nominated as ‘Specialist Presenter of the Year’.

The local commercial radio station, which is owned by Bauer Media, covers the largest geographical area in mainland UK and includes the Highlands, Moray and parts of Aberdeenshire.

The radio station reaches out to over half the population in the area and was recently named ‘UK local radio station of the year’ at the Sony awards. MFR currently commands the highest listening figures in mainland UK per head of population.1

Danny Gallagher, managing director at MFR, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for team MFR. It is even sweeter knowing that Knoxy and Marion have been singled out for awards in their own right. What a fantastic year for Moray Firth Radio and our listeners. We’ve certainly put the North of Scotland firmly on the national radio map.”

Presenter of the year nominee, MFR’s Knoxy, said: ‘I’m really excited about being shortlisted for the ‘Presenter of the Year’ award. I’m hoping I can do it for MFR and all my loyal listeners.”

Marion Scott, who’s up for Specialist Presenter of the Year, said: “What a shocker to present the same show for almost 10 years and then from nowhere be nominated for the specialist presenter of the year. It is just wonderful.”

The commercial radio station awards will be presented on Thursday, June 17th at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London in front of a star studded audience.
