Media Release: Union wins top accolade at 2010 Marketing Society Scotland’s Star Awards

THE Union picked up the top award at the Marketing Society Scotland’s Star Awards last week.

The agency won the Gold Star as Agency of the Year; as well as further scooping a haul of three Gold Stars, four Silver Stars and two Bronze Stars on the night.

Creative talent from the public and private sector on both client and agency sides – were out in force for the event at The Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.

The Star Awards, now in their sixth year, are aimed at celebrating the most dynamic marketing campaigns in Scotland.

The Union’s wins included a Gold for Advertising Excellence for the Scottish Government’s Organ Donation campaign, a Gold for Brand Development for the premium single malt The Dalmore (Union Connect), and Union Direct, winning a Gold for Direct Marketing Excellence for VisitScotland.

Silver Stars were picked up for Customer Relationship Marketing (Union Direct/VisitScotland), Marketing for Sustainable Consumption (Union/Energy Saving Trust), Advertising Excellence (Union/Scottish Government – Debt Management), and Promotional Excellence (Union/Historic Scotland).

Bronze winners were Social Marketing (Union/Scottish Government – Wellbeing) and Advertising Excellence (Union/Energy Saving Trust).

Ian McAteer, group chair of The Union, said: “This success went way past our expectations. Winning the top prize as Agency of the Year is a fantastic reward for everyone involved in the Union Group – as it takes a huge effort to produce campaigns of such quality.

“However, what is more satisfying is the range of awards – from numerous public sector clients to the private sector, and the fact that we were recognised not just for advertising excellence, but also for direct marketing, brand development, CRM and social marketing. I think this shows the true breadth of our integrated offering to clients.”

Gus Chalmers, managing director of Union Direct, who picked up two awards on the night, said: “A big thank you has to go to all our clients. It takes teamwork to get strong results, and without the strong bond we have with our clients these awards would not have been possible.”
