Media Release: Fife Council welcomes good news for Dunfermline

FIFE Council has welcomed news that Nationwide, which last year acquired a large part of Dunfermline Building Society, are to move some operations to Scotland.

Says a spokesperson: “Caledonia House in Dunfermline will become the administrative hub for Nationwide’s Regional Brands in Dunfermline Derbyshire and Cheshire, focusing on savings and investments. A net gain of 75 jobs will bring the total number of staff to 350.”

Councillor Tony Martin, strategic chair of Environment, Enterprise & Transportation Committee, said: “This is very positive news for Dunfermline. We’ve been speaking regularly to Nationwide since the takeover occurred and have been impressed by their commitment to both the staff and the local community.

“The quality and flexibility of the Fife labour market makes it a natural place for major financial services and employers to expand their operations, and we are committed to supporting Nationwide and Dunfermline Building Societies in developing their operations in the future.

“Obviously there will be concern over the potential rationalisation of some posts during the re-organisation but overall this is positive news for Dunfermline and for Fife.”
