Media Release: Response invites Glasgow East rugby kids to Warriors summer camp

RESPONSE, sponsor of Glasgow Warriors, is sending 12 children from Glasgow’s newest rugby club, Glasgow East RFC, to attend the Warriors summer camp as part of its ongoing commitment to the local community.

The lucky boys, aged between eight and 11, were selected during the Glasgow East RFC’s summer festival at Barrachnie Park last week where the team competed against six other local rugby clubs in a mini league.

The festival provided children with an opportunity to find out more about rugby and put their skills to the test.

Commenting on the event, Glasgow East RFC chair, Martin Thomson, said: “We hope to attract lots of families to participate in the club and the added bonus is that it’s free membership and kit for the kids too. Word is spreading through our events that rugby is not an elitist game and the festival was a great chance for children to try rugby and decide whether they like it as a sport.

“The kids were so excited when we told them they could attend the Warriors summer camp and we are extremely grateful to RESPONSE for sponsoring their places.”

The 12 boys selected will get the opportunity to develop their game during the camp, which runs from 9-11 August. They will also meet the entire Warriors team, including Scotland captain, Alastair Kellock.

Glasgow based contact management centre, RESPONSE recently renewed its sponsorship with the Warriors for a further two years and saw the opportunity to send Glasgow East RFC kids to the camp as a way to further engage with the local community.

RESPONSE managing director, Brian Bannatyne, said: “As part of our new vision we have been looking for ways in which we can become more involved with our local community. This is part of the reason we continued our sponsorship with the Warriors and sending 12 kids to attend this year’s summer camp is another perfect opportunity for us to continue our efforts in this area.

“I hope the boys enjoy their time at Pollock Park and I’m sure meeting the Warriors will be one of the highlights of their summer.”

Margaret Curran, MSP for Glasgow Ballieston, who attended the festival, added: “I had a great time attending the Glasgow East RFC summer festival. The event was a welcomed chance to highlight the success of Glasgow East RFC and it proved to be a real sporting spectacle for the entire community.

“I am delighted to hear that youngsters from the club will now also be attending the Glasgow Warriors Summer camp in August. This is an exciting opportunity for the young players to improve on their rugby skills and I hope all those that attend have a great time.”
