Media Release: A spot of ‘guru magic’ to help inspire young businesses

A GROUP of Scottish entrepreneurs has combined forces to create an online media channel designed to help small businesses move out of the recession and into the next decade.

The free service, called Guruspot (www.guruspot.co.uk), was launched today, and offers small and new-start business owners a wealth of video advice on how to make their companies flourish in the current economic climate.

The project has been co-ordinated by Angela Paterson – who has a wealth of business contacts after spending four years on the board of the Entrepreneurial Exchange. She currently advises a number of high growth potential businesses across Scotland and also works on business turnarounds.

The Guruspot team has also appointed the services of Edinburgh-based multimedia firm, Capture Media, to produce the video bulletins for the new website. ‘Chief capturer’, Oliver Farrimond, will catch the gurus on film and uploaded their advice to the Guruspot site, where they will be available for business to watch and review.

Angela explained: “Over the past two years we have seen a number of companies simply move along in ‘survival mode’. The time has come for people to dust off their bigger business dreams, their growth or exit plans and move forward.

“We wanted to provide a one stop resource for people – somewhere they can have access to the experience of high profile entrepreneurs – and free of charge. We are delighted to be featuring amazing talents like Chris van Der Kuyl from brightsolid and Hamish Robertson from Robertson Technologies giving us their pearls of wisdom.

“However, we want to appeal to all business owners – regardless of level of business or sector.  So we will be featuring ‘gurus’ from all industries – from tiny shop owners through to CEO’s of major corporations.

“To ensure that the videos were of the highest quality, we needed a film team that understood what we were trying to achieve – and ‘chief capturer’, Oliver Farrimond, has an impressive track record in this area. He has worked in leading edge journalism and has filmed top business leaders such as the online Dragons Den entrepreneur, Shaf Rasul, so we’re delighted to have his expertise on board.”

In addition to the advice videos, Guruspot also offers a host of other services – including recommendations for books on leadership and advice on running a business.  It will also link to other relevant websites and videos, in addition to listing business networking groups in Scotland.
