Media Release: Media statement on behalf of the family of Mrs Janette Richardson

Media statement on behalf of the family of Mrs Janette Richardson, a much-loved mum, sister, aunt and nana.

“ON November 27, 2009, our lives were torn apart. We lost someone we all loved and cherished. It was the most gut-wrenching, cruel, devastating day of our lives and one that we will never come to terms with or understand.

“While we acknowledge that our dad has finally accepted responsibility for murdering our mum, and that the court has imposed what it considers to be an appropriate sentence, we will all continue to suffer.

“Hopefully, with time, will come some sort of closure, but for as long as we live it will be with the memory of a wonderful person whose life was so brutally ended by a totally selfish act.

“Our mum was our world. She was cruelly taken away from us at a time when she had so much more still to live for. She would do anything that was asked of her and always put others before herself. She was loving, caring and extremely supportive of her four children and two grand-daughters.

“We have not just lost our mum but our dad as well. We would like to express that we were a normal loving, close-knit family prior to this. However, we can never forgive him for taking our mum’s life.

“Mum had a sister, Margaret, and two brothers, Norman and Gordon, who have expressed that there is a gaping wound in their hearts that will never heal, and a hole in their lives that no one can fill. Their lives will never be the same without their sister and friend, Janette.

“The family would like to express its thanks for all the support received from the police, especially the family liaison officers, the Procurator Fiscal’s office, court staff including Victim Support Scotland’s Witness Service and in particular to John Fox, of Victim Information & Advice, the Crown Office.

“We are a very strong family and will continue to support each other, as we have done from that dreadful day in November, 2009, What we need is space and time to grieve. We will not be making any further media comments and would ask that our privacy be respected.”
