Media Release: Volpa pedals its way to PR triumph at Scottish Event Awards

PERTH-based communications agency, Volpa, has triumphed for a second year running at the 2010 Scottish Event Awards held in Glasgow last week.

The awards, which celebrate the achievements of the Scottish events industry, were handed out at the newly renovated Glasgow Central Station Hotel.

Volpa went head-to-head in the category for Best PR Strategy with Material Marketing who were up for their campaigns with the Scottish Government and Big Man Walking, but stole the title on the night for their work with IMG Mass Participation Sports’ Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia event.

In particular, judges singled out Volpa’s impressive handling of the media following the sabotage incident at the 2009 Etape Caledonia event which catapulted it into the media limelight.

Cycling in Scotland appeared to be a theme running through this year’s Scottish Event Awards with other winners on the evening including Cycling Scotland, which won the Event Management Grand Prix for Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland, which also won Best Sports Event, Best Educational Event and Best Event in an Outdoor Space.

Volpa, who were also shortlisted in the category for Best Marketing Strategy a title that they won in 2009, relinquished the title to the SECC, who picked up no less than four awards on the evening, including the Events Services Grand Prix, Best Large Venue, and The Green Award.

Music event, The MOBO Awards, held last year in Glasgow, picked up the Chairman’s Award and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club for The Open Championship Official Hospitality By Sodexo Prestige won Best Corporate Event, while Best Large Event went to Piping Live 2009.

Volpa’s founder, Tricia Fox, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have picked up the trophy for Best PR Strategy for our work with Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia.

“I think we’ve demonstrated that, as a communications agency we can really pull our weight against some of the bigger agencies in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and taking home a marketing services award for the second year in a row cements that.

“We’re very proud to be representing our clients and indeed Perth at a national level and will continue to strive to deliver award winning services to the events industry in Scotland.”

Volpa is set to go head to head for the top marketing services awards in the country against some of the UK’s major events next month at the UK Event Awards which will be held in Manchester.
