Media Release: Avoid the fuss and take the bus to enjoy spectacular Perth celebrations this Friday

FAMILIES attending Perth Light Night are being urged to leave the car at home and ride the bus for free in a bid to avoid traffic chaos.

With tens of thousands of people expected to descend on Perth city centre on Friday (Nov 26) to take in the spectacular light show and firework display, parking spaces are certain to be few and far between.

However, in a bid to cut the traffic chaos, Smith & Sons, one of Scotland’s leading independent coach operators, is putting on a free bus service which will run from Broxden Park and Ride to Mill Street in the city centre all evening.

“The last thing anyone wants is for traffic to come to a standstill in the city centre on what should be a free fun night out,” said Ian Smith of Smith & Sons Coaches.

“We’re hoping that as many people as possible take up our offer to leave the stress of motoring behind and ride the bus for free.”

All those who take advantage of the free rides on the route will receive a selection of giveaways, including reflective bracelets and necklaces to wear and share at the Light Night festival.

Light Night is the grand finale to the Perth 800 celebrations. The year-long celebration marks the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Burgh Charter to Perth by King William the Lion in 1210.

Perthshire Past, Present and Future will be portrayed through a spectacular light trail through Perth’s town centre.

Iconic Perth buildings such as St John’s Kirk, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Perth Concert Hall and AK Bell Library will be illuminated for the evening, as well as the River Tay.

A fabulous weekend of entertainment is planned including fireworks, art installations, medieval markets and music, a travelling gallery, dance acts, storytelling and dramatic historic walks.
