Media Release: Thomsons Online Benefits celebrates first decade in business

THOMSONS Online Benefits, a market leader in flexible benefits and benefit administration, celebrates their first decade in business this week with a spectacular ball for employees.

Thomsons Online Benefits was founded in December 2000 by Michael Whitfield and Chris Bruce, who had both worked previously in the employee benefits industry.

Michael comments: “The idea for the business evolved over a number of years from working with clients who were increasingly frustrated by the growing benefit administration mountain, who wanted to find a more efficient way both to run and to empower their employees to take control of their benefits. When I met Chris, the final piece of the jigsaw fell into place and a formidable new partnership was created.

“We always believed that offering a combination of consulting, communication and technology could transform the employee benefits market and the value that both employers and employees derive from their reward packages. We have remained true to our original vision, becoming the market leader measured by turnover, profitability and clients.“

Chris adds: “If I look back ten years ago it is incredible to think how many people told us what we wanted to achieve was impossible. However, we have been on an extraordinary journey of an internet start-up in the height of the dot-com crash, to a successful global business employing over 250 people with revenues in excess of £22 million. Over the years, there have been many highlights along the way, but I feel most proud that we always continued to believe in our vision and to back our judgement in terms of the business that we wanted to build.”

Thomsons Online Benefits now operates offices across the UK, Singapore and the USA and boasts a host of blue-chip clients such as Betfair, Cisco, GSK, RBS and Smith and Nephew. As well as winning over 25 awards, they are only the fourth company to have been listed five consecutive times in the prestigious Sunday Times Tech Track 100.

All Thomsons’ employees and their partners will be treated to a ball at the Natural History Museum this week to celebrate their success. Chris and Michael finish: “We wanted to treat our employees and their families to show our appreciation for all their hard work in helping us build the business, and to get them excited for the next stage of our incredible journey.”
