Media Release: Beating the recession in Stirling

A SCOTTISH software development company is doubling its development team and moving into new offices in Stirling, as it uses recession-savvy tactics to ride out the economic downturn.

Cloud Street Ltd takes possession of its new premises at Springfield House in the prestigious Laurelhill Business Park this week.

The team have had to think smart to turn the difficult business environment to their advantage.

“We’ve succeeded in negotiating deals on office space and equipment,” says Cloud Street co-founder, Paul Midgley. “With these savings, we’ve had more to invest in growing our workforce.”

Adds a spokesperson: “What’s more, using tips and tricks from online jobs listing sites, Cloud Street has avoided recruitment agency fees and managed the entire hiring process in-house.”

“The weak employment market means we’ve had the opportunity to pick from an unusually strong field of candidates,” adds Midgley, whose experience includes a six-year stint as head of Development at leading travel site, cheapflights.co.uk.

The spokesperson adds: “Cloud Street has been successfully building back-office systems for organisations of all sizes for the last four years. The company targets customers across the UK to tap the greatest possible pool of work, and has taken advantage of attractive recession-driven discounts to reduce expansion costs.

“Using online marketing, it has honed its message to target customers who stand to benefit most from its services.”

Adds Midgley: “We like the control and real-time feedback we get from online campaigns, and building the expertise to manage these ourselves ensures we get the best possible value for money.”

The success of this strategy has given them the confidence to expand their workforce, with new database application developers, Andrew Ramsay and Owen Bondin, joining the team this month.
