Media Release: Johnston Carmichael appoints new head of agricultural team

JOHNSTON Carmichael, one of Scotland’s largest independent accountancy firms, has appointed a new head of its Agricultural team to drive forward and further develop its expertise in the sector as well as the extensive range of services the firm provides to Scotland’s farming sector.

Robin Dandie, 44, a partner based in Johnston Carmichael’s Forfar office, takes over the role from Alex Rennie – who had previously headed up the firm’s agricultural team for ten years.

Robin comes from a farming family and is well-known within agricultural circles in and around Angus, Tayside and Perthshire.

He was Johnston Carmichael’s first-ever member of staff in Forfar back in 2003 and was promoted to the position of partner in 2007.

As well as heading up the firm’s agricultural team, Robin will also have specific responsibility for spearheading the promotion of the firm’s agricultural expertise in the Forfar, Perth and Dundee areas.

Currently managing partner of Johnston Carmichael’s Huntly office, Alex Rennie will continue to work closely with clients in the agricultural sector and will also play a key role in assisting with the management of certain other aspects of the firm’s business.

Further re-structuring of the agricultural team sees Graham Leith, who is based in Inverurie, now taking responsibility for developing the firm’s agricultural expertise together with the local teams in, Huntly, Fraserburgh and Inverurie while Peter Innes, who is based in Elgin, will be similarly responsible for the North, Inverness and Elgin. Further, Edinburgh-based Neil Steven, will have responsibility for promoting the firm’s agricultural capability in the Borders, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Johnston Carmichael chief executive, Sandy Manson, says the agricultural sector continues to be an area of major focus for the firm.

He said: “We are continually looking to improve and develop our offering to the agricultural sector throughout Scotland and under Alex Rennie’s leadership we have established an enviable level of experience and expertise and an impressive client list within this key industry sector in Scotland’s economy.

“With Robin at the helm of our new farming team I am confident we can continue to build on our existing strong platform and further develop our reputation within the agricultural sector right across Scotland.”

Robin Dandie added: “I am delighted to be now heading up the firm’s farming team and look forward to building on the solid foundations which are already in place.

“We have an agricultural team in place which I believe has unparalleled knowledge of the sector and as a firm we are committed to investing further in what we have to offer Scotland’s farmers in successfully dealing with the many issues they face.”

Johnston Carmichael has 47 partners and over 400 staff across its ten offices in Scotland, with specialist expertise in a number of sectors including agriculture, oil and gas, renewables, food, hospitality and construction.

The firm was also previously named Professional Adviser of the Year in the Scottish Farmer’s Agricultural Supplier Awards.
