Media Release: Employer recruitment incentive – changes in criteria

EMPLOYERS who take on a Modern Apprentice can now receive up to £2,000 from Skills Development Scotland towards recruitment and support costs.

This is an increase of £1,000 on the previous Employer Recruitment Incentive figure and is based on an individual’s eligibility and the size of the company.

The extended guidelines are aimed at encouraging more businesses to support training and employment.

Small-to-medium enterprise companies with up to 49 employees looking to recruit a Modern Apprentice or employee can now receive an additional £1,000.

This is on top of the current £1,000 incentive, towards employment support and is based on individuals meeting one of the eligibility criteria set out for the incentive.

The incentive was previously aimed at 16-19 year-olds who had faced barriers in the past, or who had completed a Skills Development Scotland employability programme.

Now, individuals who are 18 years old and over are also eligible – providing they have been unemployed for six months and are starting as a Modern Apprentice, or have graduated from Training for Work and who will be employed by the company.

Employer Recruitment Incentive application forms can be requested from the Skills Development Scotland Employer Helpline on 0800 783 6000 or from the website at www.skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk/eri
