Media Release: Clyde 1 & Clyde 2 – number one choice for Glasgow and the west

RADIO Clyde delivers a combined audience of more than 700,000 listeners in Glasgow and the west of Scotland – making it easily the most listened-to commercial radio organisation in this marketplace.

Begins a spokesperson: “Clyde 1 remains the dominant radio station for audiences across Glasgow and the West according to the latest radio listening figures released today (Thursday 4th August).

“According to RAJAR, Clyde 1 now reaches an audience of 575,000 listeners each week improving year on year adding 45,000 to its audience.

“Similarly, listening hours have increased in this same period and the station can boast a market share of 14.6 per cent ahead of the nearest commercial competitor by a clear 4.5 points in the market.

“Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 have an on-going commitment to deliver a locally-focused product expertly tailored for audience and championing their local communities.

“The focus on delivering extraordinary hit music, entertainment, news, sport, travel and showbiz both on air and through multiple digital and social media channels continues to engage audiences and ensures that a clear gap is maintained between Clyde 1 and its competitors.

“This approach is paying dividends on Clyde 1 and today’s figures show that every single daytime show between 6am – 10pm weekdays has more listeners than any other radio station in this market.

“George & Suzie in the Morning add a further 10,000 listeners to their No1 breakfast show stretching ahead of its nearest commercial competitor by four share points. This equates to a massive 104,000 more listeners each week. Now almost a year old, the show is proving to be a runaway success with the listeners.

“Clyde 1 Superscoreboard commands the envious position of being the number one sports show both during weeknights (6-8pm) and at weekends beating off all its rivals with a 15 per cent share of the available audience during the week and a 24.3 per cent share at the weekends; leading its nearest commercial competitor by 17 points.

“Clyde 2 increases its weekly reach by 3.4 per cent from this time last year and now has a weekly audience of 263,000 listeners. This is a four-year high.”

Graham Bryce, managing director, Bauer Radio Scotland, said:

‘We’re absolutely delighted that Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 has increased its audience in the last 12 months and remains the No1 choice for listeners in Glasgow and the West with 700,000 people tuning in each week, proving that we continue to entertain and engage our audiences with a more compelling offer than our competitors.

“We embarked on a major revitalisation project last year, developing our product and new approaches to engaging our local audiences. Our refreshed line-up and re-focused, award nominated, multimedia approach to content is meeting the needs of the modern radio listener and we’re proud to be delivering such a successful product to them.

“We will continue to place our audiences at the heart of everything we do and our dedicated team will ensure we provide the most exciting and up-to-date hit music, showbiz, entertainment, sport, news and travel that personally connect to the listeners of Glasgow and the West every day of the week.”
