Media Release: Shelter Scotland comment on right-to-buy statistics

GRAEME Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, comments on its new analysis of national housing statistics showing a 50 per cent drop in right-to-buy sales over the last two years…

He said:

“We welcome the latest figures which show that over the last two years there has been a 50 per cent reduction in sales of local authority homes in Scotland under the right-to-buy scheme.

“This is good news for people on housing waiting lists and shows that the Scottish Parliament was right to reform the system to secure the supply of social housing.

“The big challenge now is how to build enough new homes for the generations locked out of home-ownership and social housing. The answer will not come by selling off the few homes our nation currently has at massive discounts.”
