Media Release: Clever simplicity wins Edinburgh-based Attacat an international email marketing award

MARKETINGSHERPA have just announced the winners of the seventh annual MarketingSherpa Email Awards.

The contest is sponsored by Responsys and features the world’s best email marketing of the year.

Edinburgh-based Attacat Internet Marketing has been selected as the GOLD winner in the Best Personalisation/Segmentation Strategy category for an email campaign on behalf of their client, Clare Florist.

Beating a campaign by Microsoft into silver medal position, David Clark – account manager for the Clare Florist account, said:

“We’re delighted to be recognised for the extensive email marketing work we’ve been doing with Clare Florist over recent months.

“The email marketing strategies that we use are always based on in-depth research but what caught the judges’ attention for this award was the simplicity of the revelations that led to a dramtic increase in financial performance of Clare Florist’s email marketing.

“With hindsight our recommendations were blindingly obvious but time and again the blindingly obvious is missed.

“Fingers crossed I’ll get to collect the award at the MarketingSherpa email summit in Las Vegas next year!”

The Campaign

The premise was to target specific recipients with products that they had previously bought. Instead of sending one blanket email to all recipients the templates we tailored so that the customer received offers for products they had already bought and shown they had liked.

The strategy being that if we show the customer products they are interested in and strip out others that could be a distraction then they are much more likely to follow through and convert to a sale.

This turned out to be the case and the targeted emails were twice as likely to be opened and generated more than four times the revenue of the control group.

Ben Rogers, director of Attacat Internet Marketing, said:

“We’re always happy to have our campaigns recognised in this way – and especially by such a highly regarded organisation as MarketingSherpa whose awards always attract tough competition.

“The work done by the team on this project, as with all projects, was superb and I take great pride in their accomplishments. I look forward to next year’s awards!”

David Marshall, owner of Clare Florist, said:

“I’m very happy with the work that Attacat have done for my company – both in terms of the email marketing but also all the other areas of the business that Attacat have a hand in.

“With these things the impact on my revenue is always more important than awards but I’m very happy with the results that were generated from this campaign!”
