Media Release: New money for housing delights Shelter Scotland

RESPONDING to the Scottish Government’s announcement that a further £87million is being committed to housing, Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, says:

“I am delighted that more money is to be invested in housing, showing that the Scottish Government has recognised the important role housing plays in the social and economic well-being of Scotland.

“Shelter Scotland has been campaigning for the Scottish Government to plug the hole created by recent cuts to the housing budget and this new money goes some way toward that goal.  It will help make real progress on building homes for the 156,000 people on council waiting lists while at the same time providing a vital boost to Scotland’s construction industry.

“This £87million also means the Scottish Government can now surpass its current house building targets and we look forward to hearing how many new homes for rent this will mean on top of the 6,000 affordable homes per year already promised.”
