Media Release: Scots comedians benefit for Fairtrade

FOUR big-name comedians are set to kick-start this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight, celebrating everything Fairtrade.

The Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow will showcase an exciting night of laughter on Monday the 27th February, supported by the Scottish Fair Trade Forum.

Hosted by witty Glaswegian, Susan Morrison, the night will feature stand-up from acclaimed comic storyteller, Bruce Morton; ukulele-player, Eleanor Morton; and Scotland’s ‘brightest old comedian’, Phil Differ – known for his writing work on Naked Video and Chewin’ the Fat.

Commenting on the cause, Susan says: “I’m a huge supporter of Fair Trade – who isn’t? Its great food, great wine – and a great feeling to know that you are helping the actual producers of these great products, rather than adding to the share price of a multinational global conglomerate.”

The Fair Trade movement ensures producers are paid a proper price.

SFTF director, Martin Rhodes, says: “Scotland is aiming to be declared a Fair Trade Nation in 2012, by showing that Scotland’s communities are doing their bit to support a fair deal for farmers and producers in the developing world.

“It’s great to have the support of the Stand and others in the entertainment and arts communities for the cause of Fair Trade. It’s going to be a great fun evening for a great cause.”

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5. For more information, contact the Stand on 0844 335 8879 or go online at www.thestand.co.uk.
