Media Release: Scotland’s first-ever Fair Trade Guide to be launched

THE first ever national Scottish Fair Trade Guide is to be launched.

The Guide for the first time brings together information from every part of Scotland about Fair Trade activities in the year in which Scotland is putting together its bid to be recognised as a Fair Trade Nation.

The guide has won the backing of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Steve Redgrave.

The Guide produced by Scotland-based media company Hand Up Media and supported by the Scottish Fair Trade Forum and the Co-operative will be launched in Glasgow on Monday (11 June).

100,000 copies of the Guide have already been ordered by Fair Trade supporters around Scotland and it has been backed by Cabinet Secretary, Fiona Hyslop MSP

The Guide will be launched by journalist, broadcaster and writer, Tom Morton, who begins a cycle ride on Friday 8 June from Scotland’s southernmost point, the lighthouse at the Mull of Galloway to the northernmost, Unst in Shetland.

He will be stopping off in Glasgow to help launch the Guide on Monday 11 June.

Martin Rhodes, director of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum, commented “We are pleased to be supporting the Guide which gives an indication of many of the activities happening all over Scotland in support of Fair Trade.”

Scotland is currently putting together a bid for recognition as a Fair Trade Nation.

Ms Hyslop has described 2012 as “the most exciting yet for Fair Trade in Scotland”.

Tania Pramschufer, director of Hand Up Media, commented “ I’m delighted that we’ve put together such an exciting and inspiring Guide – there’s so much going on for Fair Trade in Scotland and the Guide gives you an indication of that commitment all across Scotland.”
