Media Release: Hamilton Park ready to open the gates for Racenight with Reggie Yates

JOHN Smith’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup worth £35,000 included on card for Racenight with Reggie Yates this Saturday as bumper July continues

HAMILTON Park is hotting up for another big Saturday night with a DJ set by Reggie Yates, the entertainment highlight of an evening which also features the £35,000 John Smith’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup.

Hot on the heels of the success of last weekend’s standalone concerts with Tom Jones, Peter Andre and Steps, the scene is set for the next of the racecourse’s major events.

Following the weather-affected abandonment of Friday night’s John Smith’s Fair Friday meeting, its £35,000 feature race has been transferred to Saturday’s fixture as a seventh race at 7.15pm.

Also on Saturday, BBC Radio 1 presenter, Reggie Yates, will host his very own post-racing open-air DJ spectacular, entertaining thousands of racing fans with a stomping 60-minute set.

The 29 year-old Londoner will be performing in a special purpose-built ‘DJ Cube’ which has been custom designed for use by the world’s top DJs.

This means families, music fans and race-goers alike can enjoy dancing along to Reggie’s set, as well as taking in some quality racing and all the usual fun and games provided in the scenic grounds of Hamilton Park.

The event also features an array of free entertainment for children including fun rides, a bouncy castle, face painting and hair braiding. And for families on a budget, accompanied children under-16 get in free.

Vivien Kyles, chief executive of Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “It’s terrific that after all the excitement of the concerts there is even more to come this weekend.

“It was with great regret that the incessant rain forced us to abandon our John Smith’s Fair Friday meeting but we’re pleased that we were able to add the £35,000 John Smith’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup feature race to Saturday’s card.

“Then, continuing our music theme, we welcome Reggie – a man in the know in terms of the best new sounds from both home and abroad. It is yet another entertainment option which will appeal across our customer base, from families and large party groups to young couples and everyone in between.”

Saturday’s fixture follows last weekend’s concerts when more than 15,000 fans flocked to the racecourse to enjoy the sounds of Welsh legend Tom Jones and pop icons Peter Andre and Steps.

Kyles added: “It was another truly memorable weekend at Hamilton Park with more than 15,000 music fans enjoying our two concerts.

“We’re really pleased with the overall success of both nights with all the acts we chose to perform proving to be real crowd pleasers. In particular Tom Jones, with his more than 50 years of entertainment experience, had real presence on stage and delivered a stunning vocal performance.

“Thankfully, the weather was relatively kind to us compared to elsewhere in the country. Indeed it is a real credit to our team here and our partner agencies that both events ran so smoothly when you consider some the underfoot conditions and issues at other venues during the weekend.

“However, nothing was going to dampen the spirits of those who came to Hamilton Park and the success of our latest concerts is further proof of our capability of hosting big events and bringing big names to the area.”
